Feeling Better :)

It's beautiful outside, and the first thing it makes me think is: bike ride.

Gallons of tea, 1000's of mg of Emergen-C, and a pretty decent amount of sleep (for once) later, this is the first indication that I'm finally feeling up to getting back in the saddle.

Good thing the midterms are over. In my supercilious youth, I would have scoffed at having 2 open notes exams (ah, U of C Lab School ...), but with feeling sick, I appreciated it and the extra hours of sleep it afforded me.

And after this week, it'll be spring break, meaning I'll be home in Chicago ... with my awesome new bike !!! Ooo, I can test ride it on the lakefront path ... perfect.

In other interesting tid-bits, I read some of the application essays for Campus Honors Program for students entering in Fall 2008. Some of them were rather mediocre, but the majority were actually very inspiring. Many of them talked about helping people through engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, business, med school, international health, and even architecture. Several of them were well-travelled, and most of them did some kind of regular community service. One particularly intriguing one even targetted philanthropy as his/her (we're not given the names or any personal information about the applicant, just their essays, extracurricular activities, and awards/merit) main interest, and described how s/he wanted to apply it using engineering or architecture. It's good to see such motivated, interesting, and philanthropically minded people applying to this school and out there in the world. It's kinda like, chicken soup for the soul :)
