Coeur d'Alene, ID

I was sketching an alleyway really intently yesterday when someone walked by and complimented my sketch. I mumbled thanks and continued to sketch, but the guy returned a little while later. It turns out I was sketching in front of the coffee shop his wife owns, and that he had inherent interest because he had once studied architecture, and because he is a stone mason. He appreciated my intent sketching enough to give me a pastry from his wife's shop. Thanks again :)

I shared the pastry at an espresso barn on the bike path this morning, which Stazzle, Jake C., Marty, and Jess. It went well with the cappucino I got. We were all so sad to leave the bike path, but actually 4th of July Pass wasn't nearly as bad as Lookout Pass. The shoulder was way better.

Coeur d'Alene had an art fair in session, and we all decided to go swimming in the lake. The water was a bit cold, but nothing terrible, and it felt great. The green mountains by this lake reminded me a lot of Greece.

Barbara, Willa, Michael, and Brooke all went on a crazy adventure today though. In stead of getting on I-90 at mile 28 ish, they decided to stay on the bike path. However, it was washed out for about 11 miles, so they had to use US 3, but they heard it was a bad road to take, so they were planning to hitchhike on that road, get back on the bike path to an Indian Reservation, and then get on a shuttle (?!?!?) back to Coeur d'Alene. THEY MADE IT! But apparently, they ran into a snag with one of the shuttles they took: there was a bike rack for 4 bikes, but one was taken already. A gentleman and his daughter and her bike, who were getting off in a bout 5 miles. The group looks around, everyone kinda looks at Michael, the fastest rider, and he BOOKS it to where the van was going. They didn't see him for the longest time from the van, and then with about a half mile to go, they see him! He had almost beaten the van ... and then they were on the second (and final shuttle) which was fine. As soon as they get off though, Willa's saddle freaks out, and the bolt that holds the saddle in place breaks, so she had to stand for about 3 miles the way to the church. This is the essence of Bike and Build.

You are now in Washington, the last and destination state, huh?
It seems that you have had pretty good weather since you have not talked about rain for a while. We are having a heat wave in Chicago. Tomorrow will be 96F with heat index of 104 based on the forecast.

Wow. I wish people would give me free pastries for drawing buildings! Heehee (: Reminds me of a time my friend Chris was drawing some of the buildings of the 6-pack. He is slightly older and doesn't look like a student. The police stopped him and asked him what he was doing! Crazy!
