Gambier - Columbus

I slept so well last night because it was on a real bed. We also got to eat in Kenyon school's dining hall, and it made me miss the dining hall back at PAR.

I had been really excited for about 5 minutes last night because I had thought that we were going to Columbus, Indiana, where a lot of famous architects randomly decided to build some cool houses, but then I realized I was wrong. I'm feeling slightly starved for architecture at the moment. The American vernacular has its own charm (simple clarity in massing, no frills), but I do like my great designs ... (oh Europe ...)

I rode sweep today, meaning myself and David rode at the back of the pack to make sure everyone else got in alright. I was a lame sweep partner. I had thought that David was right behind me, but it turns out I kept dropping him on the hills, so I actually rode into lunch way earlier than him. I blame the aerobars. Today was windy, and I made good use of them once again. I apologized profusely, and rode behind him the rest of the way afterwards to make sure I didn't drop him again. (I also got a great draft. Thanks, David.) There were also fewer hills after lunch, and we both kept a pretty good pace. Today was a good day for sweep though, since it was fairly short (51 miles) and mostly sunny. David pointed out that dark looking clouds were chasing us, so we made sure to waterproof our electronics.

Tonight we're staying at the JCC here. It's odd how it reminds me of my childhood. I remember going pumpkin picking with Hyde Park's local JCC, and I also went to a few of my friends' orchestra concerts there. I didn't realize at the time that having a large community of Jewish people was somewhat unusual for the rest of America. We're certainly passing by a lot of churches along the way.

So, I just found out that Joe accidently ordered pizza from Kansas (the state) rather than Ohio because he did it through some phone service who didn't realize where we were. Thanks, Joe.
