I checked my bike and build account today, and it said I had $1000 !!! I'm a quarter done !!! Thanks to Keith and Alex. Their donations helped me pass this mark.
I also took this week pretty slow in terms of everything. Classes just started and aren't really intense yet, and I needed a sort of mental break from the whole fund-raising thing.
Not that I haven't been doing anything for it, of course. I've been showing around some of the books I made by hand, and I've been getting quite a few good responses. Most people are suggesting a price of $10 for each of them, which sounds pretty reasonable to me as well. I've also got a huge stack of recycled paper sitting next to me right now, and plenty more to be harvested from the architecture computer labs, so: awesome. Making money with very low fixed cost in terms of raw materials.
Now I have to consider:
1) Which authority figures to contact in order to be able to advertise them to the School of Architecture, Campus Honors Program, and local cycling groups.
2) A poster design to advertise them.
3) Some sort of insert to put into my handmade books explaining how they are made, and what they are helping to raise money for. It would add a nice touch to them, hopefully.
And I still have to design some sort of thank you card to send out to people. So far most of them have been improvised using the old catalogues I got from Corbis (a graphic design firm right next to 4240 Architecture) or other of my works.
Apparently, they also changed which bike we're going to be using for the trip. It had said in the participant manual that we were going to use the Trek 1000, but now it is the Specialized Allez Triple. if we want to upgrade, it's the Specialized Dolce WSD (women specific design) or Trek 1.5, and I know nothing of any of these bikes. I guess it's research time.
Thank the powers that be that I don't have design studio this semester.
